steinexpo 2023 - Press Release 5

Countdown to the reunion

Outstanding exhibitor response for steinexpo 2023

Oct 2022: steinexpo 2023 evokes feelings of both longing and anticipation. Longing for the unique event that we have had to do without for far too long. Anticipation to meet again in less than a year with the current figures and events giving clear indications of what we can look forward to at the International Demonstration Fair from 23 to 26 August 2023.

Almost 200 exhibitors with around 290 represented brands have now firmly booked their participation in this unique trade fair for the raw and building materials industry at the amazing fairgrounds adding to the show’s special character. Around 70% of all the available space has now been allocated. All market-leading suppliers, whether they are from the construction machinery industry or mineral processing technology, look forward to the numerous live demonstrations.

Trade fair organiser Dr Friedhelm Rese notes: “We are incredibly pleased about the unabated popularity of and support for steinexpo 2023. Of course, we had hoped that our trade fair would remain a permanent item on the calendars of many exhibitors and interested parties, especially after the difficult years all sides had to weather. But even we were positively surprised by the ‘trade fair hunger’ that has manifested itself. It was already apparent at the long-standing return exhibitors’ meeting in April that many were eager to finally be able to present themselves and their companies on site in the quarry again.”

This is also substantiated by the figures. As with all trade fairs and events, there were initially quite a few question marks behind the bookings for steinexpo 2023, but today – with the demonstration trade fair still about one year away – it can be stated:  steinexpo has lost none of its appeal. This is also shown by the renewed high level of participation by leading industry names such as Kiesel, Komatsu, Liebherr, Volvo and Zeppelin on the construction machinery side and Finlay, GIPO, Keestrack, Sandvik, SBM and Wirtgen in the processing sector.

The quarry is “alive”

And on another front things have not exactly been standing still. It is in the nature of an active quarry that it will be constantly changing as raw materials are extracted. By hosting steinexpo in Europe’s largest basalt quarry, the organisers are confronted with a changed site situation every time, calling for a new exhibitor layout at every event. And even though this means spending more time and effort on planning compared to other trade fairs, it also opens up new and creative perspectives and possibilities of how the areas and conditions can be used.

For example, there is more scope and room for manoeuvre for demo area A at the 2023 event. This area had already been used for the unique performance shows of the large-calibre construction machinery at the most recent events. This time there will be the additional possibility of creating a high-speed track and/or mogul track for dumpers. An area where construction machinery can be parked is again part of the concept. In addition, the stationary stand areas of the participating exhibitors are compactly placed in this area. So the revelation of how these new conditions will be used for the “choreographies of the giants” is eagerly awaited.

The area for accessories will again be located in demo area B. Compared to 2017, it will now be slightly narrower. The space towards the rear of the upper demo area C is also slightly narrower this time round. Nevertheless, there will still be enough space to admire the dimensions of the fair in 2023 when taking a ride on the popular high-altitude lift. This “wow effect” is an experience that never gets old when entering the quarry at the entrance area. The entrance area will next year be located on the approximately 15,000 m² new demo area D (former backfill).

Arriving visitors can also expect another highlight in this area. Because as the quarry changes, so do the innovations and perspectives that go with it. The motto “Quarry Vision” of steinexpo 2023 is therefore representative of the visions within the industry, which will be provided with the appropriate stage. The area of approximately 2,000 m² in size will provide renowned exhibitors with the opportunity to present their future innovations, which may not necessarily be ready for the market yet, in a way that is visible and tangible for everyone. Highly intelligent machines, vehicles and services will be on display. Adjacent to the main entrance, the special “Quarry Vision” area will be hard to miss. Every arriving visitor will be rewarded with the extraordinary Innovation Park.

In general, steinexpo 2023 will also look at ways on how smaller exhibitors can be presented in a way that appeals to the public, even against the backdrop of large dimensions. The area for the indoor exhibitors will also have a dual focus. For this purpose, the previous large pavilion will be divided into two parts – an exhibition pavilion focusing on a specific theme will be open to visitors at each of two locations on two levels.

Those who stand by each other can grow together

This give and take in the form of successful cooperation and mutual support has always formed the backbone of this successful trade fair.

steinexpo could already count on the backing of associations at its first event in 1990. It was the BVNI (Association of German Natural Stone Industry), the predecessor association now known as MIRO (Association of German Mineral Raw Materials), who backed this fledgling, and at the time completely unusual trade fair in the beginning. The European Aggregates Association (UEPG), the Construction Machinery and Building Material Plant Association of the Association of German Machinery and Plant Manufacturing (VDMA) and the Association of the Construction Industry, Environmental Technology and Mechanical Engineering (VDBUM) later added their support. With the entry of the German Demolition Association in 2021, the demolition technology segment was also fully manifested.

With the newly acquired technical and conceptual partnership of steinexpo with the Industrial Minerals Association Europe (IMA) – officially since July 2022 – a further milestone has been reached in successful international industry cooperation. The new partnership will further strengthen and massively expand the international orientation of steinexpo. Together, the associations of the IMA umbrella organisation represent more than 500 companies in 28 countries. This is of course an important step towards making the unique demonstration fair even more visible across national borders. More than 23% of the trade visitors already came from abroad to the last steinexpo.

Tried and tested with dynamic vibrancy

The combination of concepts that stood the test of time and the openness and curiosity for innovations and inventiveness makes the trade fair an industry mainstay that keeps reinventing itself. So after more than 30 successful years, it simply seemed appropriate to take a look at the roots and beginnings. Conclusion: The excitement and enthusiasm is still the same. Only the attire has changed here and there. And of course the quarry itself. A truly exciting development that is worth sharing. steinexpo: As the biggest and most significant stone quarry demonstration exhibition on the European continent, the steinexpo had its premiere in the Nieder-Ofleiden stone quarry in September 1990. The trade fair is held in a three-year cycle. By means of impressive live demonstrations against the backdrop of a magnificent stone quarry, manufacturers and dealers of building and processing machinery, utility vehicles and heavy vehicles as well as plants for the extraction and treatment of materials put their performance capabilities on display. The recycling of mineral building materials represents another focus point. The steinexpo is organised by Geoplan GMBH, Iffezheim.
